Immunization

Under California law, children must receive certain immunizations to attend public or private schools, including elementary and secondary schools, as well as child care centers, family daycares, nursery schools, and other pre-kindergarten programs. These facilities are responsible for ensuring students meet immunization requirements, keeping up-to-date immunization records, and submitting the necessary reports.

Children will not be enrolled unless an immunization record is presented and immunizations are up-to-date. If your child is unimmunized due to medical reasons, please notify us.

KIPP SOCAL IMMUNIZATION POLICY

  • Parents/guardians must submit their child’s most up-to-date immunization record as part of the enrollment/registration packet. Even if immunizations are not yet complete, a current record must be submitted before the enrollment window closes to secure a seat.
  • Students must meet all required immunizations by the timelines set by the state, and no later than the first day of school. Students who do not meet these requirements will be excluded from school until proof of compliance is provided.
  • Students conditionally admitted (e.g., immunizations in progress or with an IEP) will receive monthly reminders from the school’s operations team to complete all outstanding immunization requirements.

RESOURCES

Medications & Procedures

California Education Code Section 49423 provides that any student who is required to take, during the regular school day, medication (prescribed or over-the-counter) may be assisted by the credentialed school nurse or other designated school personnel if the school district annually receives:

  1. A written statement from an authorized health care provider licensed by the State of California to prescribe medications detailing the name, method, amount, and time schedules by which such medication is to be taken; and
  2. A written statement from the parent or guardian of the student indicating the desire that the school district assist the student in the matters set forth in the health care provider‘s statement.

Upon enrollment, families will identify if a student will need to have medicine administered at school by completing the Medication Administration form in the registration packet. In order for a KIPP employee to be able to administer medicine to a student, the form signed by a physician needs to be on file and kept with the medicine.

Student Allergies

Your child’s health history—including any known allergies—helps us provide the best possible care and support while they’re at school. It’s important that we receive accurate and up-to-date documentation to ensure their safety and well-being.
