Lottery Dates

School Year 2021-22 lotteries are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, February 27th & Sunday, February 28th. Given COVID-19, we are planning to video stream our lotteries online so families can view the lotteries from the safety and comfort of their own homes. We will share a detailed timeline in early 2021 so families know when to log in to view the lottery for a particular school & grade level. As a reminder, in order for your application to be entered in the lottery, it must be submitted before Friday, February 12th at 4pm PST. All families will be notified by both email and mail if their application is accepted or waitlisted. For questions, contact enrollment@kippsocal.org or (323) 647-8898.

Lottery Admissions

KIPP SoCal Public Schools are open to all, and there are no requirements to apply. In order to ensure our process is fair, our application only requests the bare minimum information required to hold a public lottery: student age/grade, contact information, and schools interested in.

If the number of applications exceeds the number of available seats in any given grade, we will host a public, random lottery in order to determine which students are accepted. We do give priority to certain categories of students, as detailed below.

KIPP Comienza, KIPP Empower, KIPP Promesa, and KIPP Ignite schools ONLY:

Priority in the lottery is given to the following categories of students, in order:

  • Siblings of students currently enrolled at the KIPP School for which the lottery is being held.
  • Children of KIPP SoCal Public Schools employees.
  • Students whose address of residence lies within the published boundaries of the District authorizing the school (i.e. LAUSD for Los Angeles schools, Compton USD for Compton schools, etc.)
  • Students currently enrolled in and attending a KIPP SoCal Public School in the immediate prior grade level to the Charter School’s instructional grade level that has vacancies.

For students not accepted during the lottery, student names will be added to a waitlist in order of the lottery number they received. Any applications received after the deadline of February 12, 2021 will be added to the end of this waitlist in order of submission date & time.

Waitlists are dynamic! If a student is called off any of our waitlists and accepts the space, and if that student has a sibling on the waitlist, sibling is moved to the top of the waitlist with other siblings in the order of their general lottery number. This puts siblings ahead of any non-sibling waitlist students.

All other KIPP SoCal Public Schools:

Priority in the lottery is given to the following categories of students, in order:

  • Siblings of students currently enrolled at the KIPP School for which the lottery is being held.
  • Children of KIPP SoCal Public Schools employees.
  • Students whose address of residence lies within the published boundaries of the District authorizing the school (i.e. LAUSD for Los Angeles schools, Compton USD for Compton schools, etc.)

For students not accepted during the lottery, student names will be added to a waitlist in order of the lottery number they received. Any applications received after the deadline of February 12, 2021 will be added to the end of this waitlist in order of submission date & time.

Waitlists are never reordered. Therefore, the only way your number will change is if the students above you are accepted, in which case your number will be lowered. (Ex. If your student is #10 on the waitlist after the lottery, but then 3 students are accepted, your waitlist number should move to #7.)
