Melissa Helguera

Melissa Helguera is the Co-School Leader of KIPP Comienza Community Prep Upper School in Huntington Park. She began her teaching career with KIPP SoCal in 2008 as an instructional assistant at KIPP Raíces Academy, and then became the founding science teacher at Raíces. During this time, she received multiple California Congressional recognitions for her teaching efforts. In 2014, she transitioned to become a science teacher at KIPP Sol Academy and became Dean in 2017. Ms. Helguera became the Principal of Comienza Upper School in 2018. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Chicano/a Studies & Education from UCLA, a Master of Arts in Urban Education from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master of Education in School Leadership from USC.
