In celebration of Black History Month, KIPP Scholar Academy hosted its annual Hair Love event, bringing together students, families, and community partners for a day focused on culture, confidence, and community.
Inspired by the beloved children’s book Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry, the event celebrated self-love and pride in identity. Over 60 students from KIPP Scholar Academy and KIPP Vida Prep received free braiding and barbering services, helping them feel confident, celebrated, and ready to shine.

A very special thank you to the more than 50 incredible volunteers from the Los Angeles Trade Technical College Cosmetology Program, parents, and KIPP alumni who generously donated their time and talent to serve our students and families.
Events like Hair Love are a powerful reminder of the importance of celebrating culture and creating school spaces where every student feels seen, valued, and proud of who they are.
