KIPP Empower Academy and the Community Coalition recently partnered to host a grocery giveaway that provided care, connection, and relief to local families.
The event welcomed 224 families, each receiving fresh groceries and essential items during a time when many in our community are navigating rising costs, reduced benefits, and ongoing housing challenges.
Throughout the morning, families expressed gratitude for access to healthy food and community support. Several neighbors experiencing homelessness expressed deep appreciation, and some attendees picked up extra boxes for loved ones and neighbors who were sheltering in place, showing the strength and compassion that defines South LA.
This event was made possible thanks to the leadership of KIPP Empower’s Community School Manager, Mr. Mendoza, who continually nurtures and builds partnerships to better support our students, families, and neighbors. His behind-the-scenes work helps ensure our school remains a hub of care and resources for the community.
Events like this remind us of the power of partnership and what can happen when schools and community organizations come together with purpose. Opportunities like these are among the many reasons families continue to #ChooseKIPP.
