On October 17, 2025, the countdown officially began — just 1,000 days until the Opening Ceremony of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games!
In celebration of this milestone, KIPP SoCal joined Delta Air Lines and TreePeople for a day of environmental stewardship and community pride in South Los Angeles, near the LA Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Park, one of the future venues for the Games.
Together, volunteers planted 100 new trees, cared for existing greenery, and helped make the area surrounding this historic neighborhood a little greener and more vibrant.
The event, led by TreePeople and sponsored by Delta Air Lines—a Founding Partner and Official Airline of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as a proud KIPP SoCal corporate partner—brought together dozens of community members and organizations united by a shared commitment to sustainability and equity.

Community Schools Managers from KIPP Vida, KIPP Empower, KIPP Ignite, and KIPP Comienza Lower joined the effort, rolling up their sleeves to plant trees and support this meaningful community initiative.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to LA City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, who joined the event to share inspiring opening remarks and reaffirm his dedication to strengthening South LA communities.
Together with partners like Delta Air Lines and TreePeople, KIPP SoCal is proud to help create a greener, healthier future for our students, families, and neighborhoods — one tree at a time.
