Ambar Valencia

Co-School Leader, KIPP Comienza Community Prep

Ambar Valencia is currently the School Leader at KIPP Comienza Community Prep. Ambar joined the KIPP SoCal Team & Family in 2015 as a 2nd grade teacher. She later joined the leadership team as a Dean and Assistant School Leader. Before working with KIPP SoCal, she taught 10 years for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, where she taught 1st and 2nd grade. She also taught ESL and citizenship classes at Fremont Adult School. Ambar is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants, she was born and raised in the SouthEast LA community of South Gate. Ambar holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from California State University of Long Beach and a Masters in Inclusive Education from Loyola Marymount University. Her purpose in leading is tied to her belief that education is a collaborative journey between educators, students, and families. She believes in working together to nurture the academic, social, and emotional development of every student. Outside of work, Ambar enjoys spending time with family, going to brunch, and listening to banda.
