On May 13, the Inheritance Theater Project (ITP) team had an incredible visit at KIPP Philosophers Academy, where they connected with our vibrant 6th-grade KIPPsters!

ITP is a national nonprofit arts organization that creates art in and with communities to build relationships across generational, racial, and religious divides.

The ITP team is currently working with Black, Jewish, and Black-Jewish communities in Los Angeles to co-create a Juneteenth Seder performance piece that will premiere in June 2024. As part of the participatory playmaking process, ITP actively facilitates workshops (like this recent one at KIPP Philosophers) to generate content for the script.

During the workshop, our scholars described what it's like to be a student in Watts, wrote heartfelt questions to seniors, and shared their knowledge of Juneteenth. Our scholars shared powerful words and phrases to describe Los Angeles and what makes them proud to call this city home, all of which have the potential to shape the narrative for the ITP's upcoming Juneteenth Seder.
