KIPP Adelante Academy Recognized as 2024 California Distinguished School

PRESS RELEASE

Los Angeles (March 28, 2024) — KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy (KAPA) has been recognized by the California Department of Education (CDE) as a 2024 California Distinguished School

The CDE uses multiple measures based on schools' performance data on the California School Dashboard to identify eligible schools for the California Distinguished Schools Program.

This year, the CDE recognized 293 middle and high schools throughout the state that significantly closed achievement gaps or demonstrated exceptional student performance. KAPA was among 13 schools in San Diego Unified to receive this prestigious honor.

KAPA has been part of the San Diego community since 2003 and was first recognized as a CA Distinguished School in 2006. As an award-winning school, KAPA has consistently demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence and student outcomes by outperforming neighborhood district and charter middle schools.

"At KIPP Adelante, we’re rewriting what is possible in public education for students in San Diego. I am so proud to receive an award that reflects the excellence and collective dedication of our students, educators, team members, families, and communities, who pour so much of their heart and soul into our school every day. When we all work together, there is no limit to what we can accomplish,” said KAPA School Leader Roxanne Cowperthwaite.

Since 1985, the CDE has celebrated and recognized exceptional schools, districts, teachers, and classified team members through the CA Distinguished Schools Program for their innovation, talent, and success in supporting students. The 2024 CA Distinguished Schools will be recognized at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim on May 3, 2024.
