Commitment to Excellence

After enrolling at KIPP Scholar Academy, the school leader, teachers, parents, and students sign a non-binding pledge called a “Commitment to Excellence.”

Parent Commitment

We commit to KIPP in the following ways:

  • We understand that our child must follow the KIPP Scholar Academy rules. We are responsible for the behavior and actions of our child.
  • We will ensure our child arrives at KIPP Scholar Academy on time so that they may be in class ready to learn. We will also arrange for our child to remain at KIPP Scholar Academy until school ends and we will attend all supplemental instruction.
  • We will notify the school no later than the beginning of the school day if our child will miss school. We will send a note when they return.
  • We will ensure our child adheres to the KIPP Scholar Academy uniform policy.
  • We will do our best to attend parent-teacher conferences, parent meetings, and contact teachers regularly to discuss our child’s progress.
  • We will check our child’s agenda and sign it every day as part of our child’s homework.
  • We will read and check carefully all papers our child brings home, including the weekly Parent Bulletin and homework every night. When there are problems, we will ensure that our child calls a KIPP Scholar Academy teammate or the KIPP Scholar Academy faculty for help.
  • We will commit to participating at KIPP Scholar Academy by volunteering in a variety of ways, including attending parent teacher conferences, family workshops, and other school-related activities.

Student Commitment

I commit to KIPP Scholar Academy in the following ways:

  • I understand that as a scholar, I am responsible for my learning, behavior and actions. As a scholar, I will participate in class, ask questions when they need assistance, take risks, and ensure that I create a safe learning environment for themselves and their teammates.
  • As part of the KIPP Scholar Academy Team and Family, I will work hard to ensure I model the school values of scholarship, love, integrity, and grit, in and outside of school.
  • I will make sure I arrive at KIPP Scholar Academy on time so that I may complete my morning work and be in class ready to learn. I will also remain at KIPP Scholar Academy until school ends and I will attend all supplemental instruction.
  • I will adhere to the KIPP Scholar Academy uniform policy.
  • I will participate in meetings with my teachers regularly to discuss my progress in school.
  • I will write my assignments in my agenda everyday and get my parents to sign it every night as part of my homework.
  • I will bring home and give my parents all notices from the KIPP Scholar Academy, including the weekly Parent Bulletin and homework. When I need help, I will ensure that I ask my parents, call a KIPP Scholar Academy teammate, or call the KIPP Scholar Academy faculty for help.

Teacher Commitment

I commit to KIPP Scholar Academy in the following ways:

  • As a teacher of scholars, I will uphold and exemplify the values of scholarship, love, integrity, and grit.
  • I will arrive to KIPP Scholar Academy on time.
  • I will dress in professional clothing daily.
  • I will plan rigorous lessons that incorporate our four academic pillars. I will plan creative lessons that are engaging, challenging, and help lead our scholars to college.
  • I will maintain healthy communication with the families regarding the progress of their scholar through email, the student agenda, the cell phone, and other relevant modes of communication.
