PRESS RELEASE

Los Angeles (December 1, 2022) — KIPP SoCal Public Schools—one of the nation's largest and most successful nonprofit public charter school networks operating 24 tuition-free, open-enrollment TK to 8th-grade schools in Los Angeles and San Diego—has released its 2022 impact report.

The report highlights and reaffirms the organization's commitment to creating joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare more than 10,000 students and 6,800 alums with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose—college, career, and beyond.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • 9 schools received U.S. News & World Report Best Elementary & Middle School Awards
  • 8,900+ students and alums supported by the KIPP Forward program
  • Alums in high school receive 5x more personal college counseling compared to their national peers
  • Alums graduate high school 15% higher than their state peers
  • Alums graduate college at 3x the rate of their national peers
  • 1500+ students served by the after-school Expanded Learning Program
  • 80% of school leadership identify as people of color
  • 81% of educators identify as people of color

  • 4 permanent locations secured for four schools in Los Angeles

The report also emphasizes the organization's commitment to strengthening its students’ academic and social-emotional recovery through new and supplemental programs that cultivate a sense of belonging, well-being, and self-determination. It also underscores the importance of creating environments where all members of its school communities can bring their entire identity and experiences forward.

“It has been an incredible feeling to be making our way back from the pandemic — back to the joy of learning, making connections, building relationships, and seeing the smiles on our KIPPsters’ faces,” said KIPP SoCal CEO Angella Martinez. “And as we make our way back, we know we’ve got some ground to catch up on, but we are more than ready.”
