Commitment to Excellence

After enrolling at KIPP Iluminar Academy, the school leader, teachers, parents, and students sign a non-binding pledge called a “Commitment to Excellence.”


Teacher’s/School Leader Commitment

We will commit to KIPP Iluminar Academy in the following ways:

  • We will do whatever it takes to teach and plan rigorous instruction, develop our students’ character, and create arts-based learning experiences needed for our students become innovative individuals that take risks for the good of our collective community and persevere as they seek knowledge through college and beyond.
  • We will always work to improve our craft to best meet the needs of our students and teammates.
  • We will be available to parents and students by phone and in person.
  • We will arrive on time and work hard throughout the school day.
  • We will participate in grade level meetings and staff development meetings.
  • We will teach at KIPP Iluminar Academy and attend professional development sessions throughout the year.
  • We will develop in our own selves the following character traits: grit, zest, self-control, curiosity, love, gratitude, hope, and social intelligence.

Parent’s/Guardian’s Commitment

We will commit to KIPP Iluminar Academy in the following ways:

  • We will always help our child in the best way we know how and we will do whatever it takes to support him/her in completing their rigorous work, developing their character, and creating the art needed for our child to become an innovative individual who takes risks for the good of their collective community and perseveres as he/she seeks knowledge through college and beyond.
  • We will read with our child every night. We will also read and carefully check all papers he/she brings home, including homework. We will call the teacher or encourage our child to call the teacher if there is a problem with the homework.
  • We will always make ourselves available to our children and the school. If our child is going to miss school, we will notify the office as soon as possible. We will attend parent meetings and support the school as valuable members of the community.
  • We allow our child to go on KIPP Iluminar Academy field trips.
  • We will make sure our child follows the KIPP Iluminar Academy dress code.
  • We understand that our child must follow the KIPP Iluminar Academy rules so as to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the school. We will be responsible for the behavior and actions of our child and address any concerns.
  • We will make sure that that our child arrives at KIPP Iluminar Academy every day on time Monday through Friday and stays throughout the instructional day, including supplemental instruction opportunities.
  • We will develop in our own selves the following character traits: grit, zest, self-control, curiosity, love, gratitude, hope, and social intelligence.

Student’s Commitment

I will commit to KIPP Iluminar Academy in the following ways:

  • I will always come to school prepared to work hard, make good choices, develop my character, and think creatively. I will do whatever it takes to make sure my fellow students and I can learn.
  • I will thoroughly complete all of my homework every night and seek help if there is a problem with the homework. I will raise my hand and ask questions in class if I do not understand something.
  • I will always behave so as to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the school. I will follow the teachers' directions.
  • I will follow the KIPP Iluminar Academy dress code.
  • I will make sure that that I arrive at KIPP Iluminar Academy every day on time Monday through Friday and stay throughout the instructional day, including supplemental instruction, like science, music, dance, or PE.
  • I am responsible for my own behavior and choices.
