About KIPP Ignite Academy
KIPP Ignite Academy is a tuition-free college-preparatory public charter elementary school that opens in the summer of 2015 in South Los Angeles. KIPP Ignite is a part of the national KIPP network of 162 schools in 20 states and D.C. In the 2015-16 school year, it will serve 115 students in kindergarten; it will add one grade each year until it reaches capacity in 2019 with 550 students in kindergarten through fourth grade.
At KIPP Ignite Academy, we believe in preparing students for the careers of tomorrow – those that do not yet exist. Tomorrow will require our students to be critical thinkers and empathetic leaders who innovate to solve local and global issues. Through rigorous academic instruction, character development, and service learning, we prepare our students to climb the mountain to and through college and become social innovators who use curiosity and collaboration to ignite transformative change in our community and world.
Ignite means to energize, catalyze, and light up. It is a powerful verb that illustrates how the potential of each student can be sparked when they are in a supportive and rigorous learning environment. At KIPP Ignite Academy, our students will discover their passions and find that learning is an enlightening and joyful experience through rigorous literacy and STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) instruction. From kindergarten, teachers help ignite students’ inner fire, strength, and light by providing rigorous academics, as well as character instruction, so they can safely take risks and innovate for a better tomorrow. We believe that every student has unique gifts to share and, as educators, it is our job to spark their passions.
At KIPP Ignite Academy, our students drive our work. All of our instructional decisions are made with our students’ achievement and success in mind. We believe in the inherent capacity of all children to learn and achieve and, therefore, execute an academic program that supports all children to be successful. KIPP Ignite Academy offers a college preparatory educational experience with rigorous academic instruction, robust character development, and enriching service learning experiences that prepares our students to thrive in middle school, high school, college, and beyond.
KIPP Ignite Academy is a STEAM-focused (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics) elementary school that prepares students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Through studies in literacy, science, technology, the arts, engineering, coding, and math, students develop the ability to solve problems and creatively approach challenges. At KIPP Ignite, teachers educate with the mindset that they are preparing students for jobs that do not yet exist, in order to solve problems we do not know are problems yet. We are committed to developing innovators who will collaborate, ask questions, defend their conclusions, and have the confidence to think differently; leaders who will take risks and work to find solutions for the good of our community and our world. Students will matriculate from KIPP Ignite with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be tomorrow's leaders and innovators.
At KIPP Ignite Academy, our school community embodies and demonstrates our collective values daily. They guide our work and drive our decision-making.
