Michelle Cornejo

Co-School Leader, KIPP Corazón Academy

KIPP Corazón Academy Lower-School is led by Michelle Cornejo, a product of East LA. Michelle began her journey in education when she started volunteering in classrooms during her undergraduate years in college. She holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology with minors in Psychology and Education from UC Davis. In 2014, Michelle joined Teach for America in Las Vegas Valley and earned a master's degree from UNLV in Curriculum and Instruction. She stayed in the Las Vegas Valley for three years before returning back home to Los Angeles in 2017, where she was a founding teacher at Corazón. Within Corazón, she has taught first grade, third grade, served as a dean, and assistant school leader before transitioning to the school leader role. Michelle is deeply passionate about education and for that reason is earning her doctorate degree from USC. She believes in the power of community, the power of our students, and the power we all hold collectively.
