Director of Special Education
Bernice Erazo joined the KIPP LA team as the Director of Special Education in June 2018. Bernice started her career as a Teach For America corps member in 2003 and served as an elementary school teacher and literacy coach specialist for LAUSD. Fueled by a passion to positively impact underserved communities on a larger scale, Bernice transitioned into a school administrator role serving the Gabriella Charter School community in Echo Park for nine years as both a Director of Operations and Assistant Principal of Special Education and Family Services. In this role, she created and managed an inclusive special education program that continuously adapted to meet the unique needs of the growing special education population. During her tenure, the California Charter School Association recognized Gabriella Charter School as having one of the top ten special education programs among California charters schools. Prior to joining KIPP LA, Bernice worked for a consulting agency as a Special Education Program Administrator where she trained and supported charter school leaders to develop, oversee, and manage special education programs tailored to meet the needs of their students. She is dedicated to creating an equitable environment for students of all learning needs and has a passion for developing collaborative school communities that put student growth and success at the center of their work. Bernice completed her undergraduate studies at USC and earned a Master of Arts in Education from LMU.
